Event on India-Japan Partnership: Okinawa Day, 20 September 2024
 
Embassy of India in Tokyo, in collaboration with the Okinawa Prefectural Government, hosted the event titled ‘India-Japan Partnership: Okinawa Day’ with the objective of furthering cooperation in business, tourism, information technology and education between India and Japan with a special focus on Okinawa Prefecture.
2. In his inaugural address, H.E. Mr Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan talked about India-Japan cooperation in a wide range of areas under the Special Strategic & Global Partnership. He highlighted the growing attractiveness of India as a preferred investment destination and business partner and the steps taken by the Government of India to improve the ease of doing business. He focused on the important role Okinawa can play in furthering cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the area of tourism, IT and education. In his remarks, H.E. Mr Denny Tamaki, Governor of Okinawa talked about expanding partnerships with India in a wide range of sectors. 
3. The event was also addressed by H.E. Mr Kyoko Nakagawa, Chairman of Okinawa Assembly, H.E. Mr Masahisa Miyazaki, State Minister for Health, Labour & Welfare of Japan, H.E. Mr Konosuke Kokuba, State Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism of Japan, Mr Kazuya Nakajo, Executive Vice President of JETRO, and Mr Ryuko Hira, Representative Founder of Okinawa-India Friendship Association. 
4. The event featured presentations from key stakeholders from both countries across sectors such as tourism, IT, and education, including IIT Hyderabad, NASSCOM, Invest India, Okinawa Institute of Science & Technology, IT Innovation Strategy Center of Okinawa, Okinawa Resort Wedding Business Association, and Tourism Promotion Division, Culture, Tourism and Sports Promotion Department, Okinawa Prefecture.
5. The event concluded with performances showcasing the rich traditions of both India and Okinawa, followed by an exhibition and networking session to explore further collaboration opportunities.
