West Bengal Investment Promotion Seminar on July 17, 2018 at Indian Embassy, Tokyo 

The Embassy of India, Tokyo is pleased to inform that a seminar on “Investment Promotion in the State of West Bengal” is being organized  on 17th July, 2018 from 1000 hrs – 1200 hrs at the Embassy of India, Tokyo during the visit of a delegation from the State Government of West Bengal led by Dr. S. Kishore, Principal Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, Government of West Bengal.    

2.  West Bengal is situated in the eastern part of India sharing 2.7% of the country’s geographical area and 7.54% of India’s population. With the State’s strategic location, West Bengal is the gateway to Southeast Asia and Northeast India, sharing borders with Bangladesh in the east, Nepal and Bhutan in the North. The state is the 4th largest economy in India with US$ 158 billion Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in FY2016-17, the 4th largest contributor to India’s services GDP and the 6th largest contributor to India’s manufacturing GDP.  West Bengal is also the highest producer of rice and vegetables, the 3rd largest in terms of mineral production and the 3rd largest in terms of agricultural produce. It is also the land of the famous Darjeeling tea. West Bengal is also among the country’s leaders in exports of leather & iron and steel, tea, textile, agri-produce, chemicals among others.  With about 3.7 million enterprises in the state, it has the second highest number of MSMEs in India.  The State Government of West Bengal is exploring collaboration with Japanese companies in focus sectors especially in manufacturing, chemical and petrochemical, vendorization, ancillarisation and industrial design.

3.  The seminar will showcase the business opportunities in the State of West Bengal and provide the latest information on the investment climate of the State. The seminar will also be showcasing the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit scheduled to be held in 2019.
