MOFA News Release on Dinner Hosted by PM Abe for Women Ambassadors in Japan

24 August 2015

From 6:30 PM, August 24, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hosted a dinner for women ambassadors posted to Japan from Liberia, El Salvador, India, Tonga, Uganda, Israel, Namibia, Luxemburg, Ireland, Samoa, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Cambodia (Ambassador-Designate), and Bosnia-Herzegovina (CDA) at Prime Minister’s Residence for approximately one hour and thirty minutes.

The dinner is a kick-off event for “World Assembly for Women in Tokyo (WAW! 2015)”. The objective of the dinner is to exchange opinions on “a society in which women can shine” with the women representatives of respective countries.

PM Abe explained that this year’s theme “WAW! For All” is a message calling on women and men of all positions and generations to think and act together for the improvement of women’s status, and that he would like to incorporate specific opinions and ideas voiced during the symposium into the government’s women’s empowerment policy.

The women ambassadors expressed expectations for “WAW! 2015,” explained about their respective countries’ initiatives in the field of women’s empowerment, and made proposals for Japan. The participants actively exchanged opinions. The dinner ended in a friendly atmosphere.
